Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving how a brand or page is represented and cited inside generative AI answers rather than in a ranked list of links.

GEO is closely related to Answer Engine Optimization; both target AI-generated answers instead of the classic blue links. GEO emphasizes how a brand is described, summarized, and recommended when a model synthesizes a response.

Practically, GEO means giving models accurate, structured, quotable information about who you are and what you do — through schema, canonical descriptions, and content that reads cleanly out of context.
